In addition to rigid and flexible, there’s semi-rigid coaxial cable. It’s essentially a hybrid of rigid and flexible coaxial cables. Semi-rigid coaxial cables are somewhat flexible and somewhat rigid. They will typically retain their shape after being formed, yet you may struggle to bend them manually.
When shopping for coaxial cables, you’ll probably come across RG-6. It’s the single most common type of coaxial cable. Cable and satellite television services often use RG-6 coaxial cable. It features a thin and flexible construction that allows for easy installation in residential homes and commercial buildings.
Twinaxial is a type of coaxial cable that features two conductors. Most other types of coaxial cables, of course, only have a single conductor. Twinaxial coaxial cables are distinguished from other types of coaxial cables by their use of two conductors. They are known as “twinaxial coaxial cables” because the conductors share the same axis.
You’ll need to choose the right type of coaxial cable for the job. Some of the most common types include hardline, rigid, flexible, semi-rigid, RG-6 and twinaxial. Each type features unique characteristics that affect its properties in telecommunications applications.
